In Loving Memory

Donald Gene Ostrander
January 26, 1945 — August 17, 2026
Donald Gene Ostrander, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and stage 4 lung cancer. Born on January 26, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, Don lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he cherished.
Raised by his grandparents, William Jennings Bryan Eli and Clifford Eva Eli, Don grew up with a nurturing family, including his parents Harry Lee Ostrander and Audrey Ellen (Eli) Taylor. His sister, Sandra McDaniel, predeceased him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his surviving siblings: Brenda McDermott, Nancy Thurman, Dean Taylor, Bill Taylor, and Karen McCormick.
Don shared a remarkable 63-year and 11-month marriage with his high school sweetheart, LeiLonie Ostrander. Their union was one of enduring love and companionship, beginning on September 15, 1962. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with two children: Scott Allen Ostrander and Michael Wayne Ostrander. He was also a proud grandfather to Kayla Ostrander, Andrew Ostrander, Chana Ostrander, and Spencer Ostrander, and a great-grandfather to Axel Ostrander.
Throughout his life, Don explored various careers, from truck driving and asphalting to working as an electronic assembler and providing security for the Kansas City Chiefs. His diverse career path was a testament to his adaptability and commitment to providing for his family.
Don was a man of many passions. He loved fishing and attending World of Outlaws Sprint Car races. As an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, he rarely missed a game. In his leisure time, he enjoyed shooting pool and sharing jokes, his quick wit and warm smile lighting up every room he entered. Don's kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and his unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued was a gift to all who crossed his path.
A celebration of Don's life will be held on August 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, located at 214 NE Chipman Rd., Lee's Summit, MO 64063. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Don's memory, supporting a cause close to his heart.
The Ostrander family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Chintala and her dedicated staff for the compassionate care and support provided to Don during his illness.
Donald's legacy of love, humor, and generosity will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all.
