Don was the cherished son of Joseph Burnes Kirkham and Rose M. Kirkham. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 41 years, Rose Helen Dzapo, whom he married on April 22, 1959. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and happiness. Also preceding Don in death were his parents and his three brothers, Fred, Bob, and Joe.

A man of intelligence and humor, Don graduated from U of D Mercy College and went on to obtain his CPA license. His career as a public accountant was marked by dedication and excellence, working with esteemed organizations such as Gobel, Ernst and Young, Whitlock, Macomb County, and Hydrologic.
Don proudly served his country in the Army from October 1952 to August 1954. His sense of duty and loyalty extended beyond his military service and into every aspect of his life. For 40 years, he was an active member of St. Louise Parish before moving to Sterling Heights. He also enjoyed being a member of the Royal Oak Elks, where he ran the golf league for over ten years.
In his leisure time, Don was an avid bowler in his younger years and continued his passion for golf until the age of 90. He loved the excitement of gambling and took many cherished trips to Las Vegas. Known for his kindness and generosity, Don was a loyal friend and family member, always ready with a joke or a helping hand.
