Donald E. Runner, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on June 21, 1963, in Monroe, Louisiana, Donald was the cherished son of the late Ray and Fannie Mae Runner. His life was a testament to strength, service, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. From an early age, Donald demonstrated a keen sense of duty and commitment, qualities that would define his life's journey. He graduated from Monroe High School, furthering his education at Columbia Southern University, where he earned both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree. His educational pursuits laid the foundation for a lifetime of dedicated service and professional excellence. Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 2006, achieving the rank of First Sergeant. His military career was marked by courage and honor, having been stationed in various cities across the United States and actively participating in both Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Upon retiring from Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, GA, Donald continued to contribute his expertise as a contractor in the Middle East. He later transitioned to a pivotal role in the private sector with the Department of Defense, where he served as a respected team lead and mentor for 17 years. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Donald was a man of faith, active in his Baptist community, and a proud member of the Freemasons. He was known for his love of sports, his convivial spirit, and his unwavering patriotism. His quick wit, warm smile, and penchant for humor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of his company. Family was at the heart of Donald's world. He shared a loving marriage with Kesha L. Thornton, whom he wed on November 7, 2009, in Atlanta. Together for 21 years, they nurtured a family with their son, Adonis, and co-parented three other wonderful children, Meagan, Rene, and Kelis. His legacy continues through his children, who carry forward his values and spirit. Donald is survived by his devoted wife, Kesha, his children, Adonis and Meagan, and his siblings, Jerry Bryant (Jackie), Sandra Washington, Regina Wingate (Eddie), Cristine Runner, and Mary Runner. He also leaves behind a host of close friends and esteemed colleagues who were touched by his kindness and generosity. He is predeceased by his parents, Mr. Ray Runner and Mrs. Fannie Mae Runner. A celebration of Donald's life will be held on August 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA. In remembrance of Donald, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. Donald E. Runner lived a life of service, love, and laughter. His legacy of kindness and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
