Donald "Don" Ray Chism

October 20, 1947 — August 19, 2026

Donald "Don" Ray Chism, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and dedication. Born on October 20, 1947, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, Don was the cherished son of the late Pryor "Pine" Poindexter Chism and Kathryn Virginia Winkle. He was predeceased by his dear brother, Ronnie Chism, and is survived by his devoted wife, Gerry Chism; loving sister, Judy Chism; brother, David Chism and his wife, Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him. Don's journey through life was marked by deep commitments and the forging of enduring bonds. He and Gerry French Haile were united in marriage on March 1, 1997, and together they built a life filled with love and shared passions. Their union was not only a testament to their love for one another but also to their shared dream of running a small Flying Service in Brinkley, Arkansas. Don and Gerry became pillars of their community, known and respected by many, and they built the only log house in Brinkley—a symbol of their unique and lasting presence in the town. A proud alumnus of Clarendon High School, Class of 1967, Don's life took a significant turn when he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1972. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for flying. After his military service, Don channeled his skills and enthusiasm into establishing the Chism Flying Service in Brinkley, where he dedicated himself to crop dusting and nurturing the land. His hard work and perseverance allowed him to build a successful business that supported his family and earned him immense respect. Don's love for the skies was matched by his love for the water. He and Gerry spent many joyful days fishing in local lakes, delighting in the abundant crappie beds they discovered together. Their shared love for poker also brought them closer to their friends and deepened their ties within the community. In accordance with his wishes, Don will be cremated, and his cremains will be spread in a place that held special meaning to him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Don's generous spirit and his commitment to helping others. As we remember Don, we celebrate a life well-lived, rich with love, laughter, and the joy of shared experiences. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
