Donald Dixon

June 16, 1951 — October 3, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Dixon, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on October 3, 2026, after a long-fought battle. Born on June 16, 1951, in Holcomb, NY, Don lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Don was a devoted son of Antoinette Dixon and was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his loving son, Dan, and daughter-in-law, Natalie Masco Dixon. He was the proud and doting grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, Ana Jean and Derek James Dixon, who brought him immense joy and pride. For 35 years, Don served as a municipal worker in Canandaigua, a place he fondly called home. His commitment and hard work made a lasting impact on the community he loved. Beyond his professional contributions, Don will be most remembered for the Christmas magic he brought to downtown Canandaigua as the Big Guy in Red. For 32 years, he donned the Santa suit, spreading joy and wonder to countless families. Though he hoped to continue this tradition for a few more years, fate had other plans. Even during his seven-month stay in the cardiac ICU, Don became an unofficial ambassador of joy, sharing kindness and strength with those around him. Don was a proud Democrat who cherished his country and enjoyed engaging in political discussions over a good meal whenever possible. His passion for history led him to become a Civil War reenactor with Reynolds Battery L, where he delighted in sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the signal corps, or as he fondly described it to children, "old-time texting." Known for his welcoming nature, Don had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued and important. He spread joy through his storytelling, humor, and a collection of tens of thousands of business cards that playfully acknowledged his resemblance to Santa Claus. In memory of Don, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, an organization that was close to his heart. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated nurses of the cardiac ICU at Strong for their compassionate and excellent care during Don's final months. Their kindness and support were a source of comfort to Don and his family. Donald Dixon was a man who embodied the spirit of generosity, love, and resilience. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him, but his legacy of joy and kindness will endure in our hearts forever.
