In Loving Memory

Donald David Schiwitz Sr.
December 7, 1945 — February 25, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Donald David Schiwitz Sr., who left this world peacefully at home on February 25, 2026. Born on December 7, 1945, in the warm embrace of New Braunfels, Texas, Don was a man whose life reflected deep roots and a generous spirit.
Don was the beloved son of the late David Gottlieb and Wally Dora Alves Schiwitz. He was preceded in death by his cherished sister, Wally Louise Tackett, and brother, Dennis Schiwitz. Yet the legacy of love he built continues to thrive in his surviving family: his devoted wife of 56 years, Doris Ella Schiwitz; his loving children, Donald David Schiwitz Jr. and wife Annette, and Carol Jean Reeves and husband Jay Dee; his adored grandchildren, Donald David Schiwitz III, Sarah Louise Tobin and husband David, John Shelby Schiwitz, and Jennifer Lee Schiwitz; and his precious great-grandchildren, Justin James Reininger and Kailua Ashley Ka’u’ionalani Schiwitz.
Don’s journey began as a spirited young man in San Marcos, Texas, where he graduated from San Marcos High School in 1964. His dedication to service was evident early on, as he committed four honorable years to the United States Army, serving his country with pride and integrity.
A man of steadfast loyalty, Don spent an impressive 45 years working with Red Simon Ford, where he was respected and admired by colleagues and customers alike. His commitment to his community extended beyond his professional life, as he volunteered as a fireman for the Martindale Fire Department, always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
Don’s true passions lay in the quiet beauty of nature and the joy of family. A gifted gardener, he cultivated a vibrant array of vegetables and flowers, sharing the fruits of his labor generously with neighbors and loved ones. His garden was a place of learning and laughter, especially when teaching his grandchildren the art of nurturing life from the soil.
Above all, Don was a builder—not just of physical things, but of memories and bonds that will endure through generations. His hands, weathered by years of work and love, crafted more than just projects; they crafted a family united in love.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers and hospice staff at Elara Caring, whose support allowed Don to pass with dignity and peace.
In celebrating Don’s life, we remember a man of integrity, humor, and warmth. His spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the lessons he imparted. As we bid farewell, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared and the love he so freely gave.
