In Loving Memory

Donald David Schiwitz Sr.
December 7, 1945 — February 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald David Schiwitz Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at home on February 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on December 7, 1945, in the charming town of New Braunfels, Texas, Donald was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout his life.
Donald was the cherished son of the late David Gottlieb Schiwitz and Wally Dora Alves Schiwitz. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Wally Louise Tackett, and brother, Dennis Schiwitz. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Doris Ella Schiwitz, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together, they raised two wonderful children: Donald David Schiwitz Jr., married to Annette, and Carol Jean Reeves, married to Jay Dee.
Donald's family was his pride and joy, and he was a loving grandfather to Donald David Schiwitz III, John Shelby Schiwitz, Sarah Louise Tobin (married to David), and Jennifer Lee Schiwitz. He also leaves behind two adored great-grandchildren, Kailua Ashley Ka’u’ionalani Schiwitz and Justin James Reininger, who were blessed to know his warmth and wisdom.
A graduate of San Marcos High School in 1964, Donald went on to serve his country with honor in the US Army for four years. After his military service, he dedicated 45 years to his career as a parts manager at Red Simon Ford, where he was known for his integrity and dedication. In his later years, he enjoyed driving a bus for Hays CISD transportation, bringing joy to the children who rode with him.
Donald was a man of many talents and interests. He was a passionate gardener, known for sharing his produce with neighbors and friends, and for the vibrant flowers that adorned his yard. His love for woodworking was evident in the creations he crafted in his shop, skills he eagerly shared with his grandchildren, passing down his knowledge and love of building things. His warm smile and helping hand were ever-present, embodying a spirit of generosity that touched everyone he met.
An active member of his community, Donald volunteered with the Martindale Fire Department, showcasing his commitment to service and care for others. His life was a testament to the values of love, family, and community.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Elara Caring for the love and support they provided during Donald's final days.
In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Donald's life. Though he may have left this earthly realm, his legacy of kindness and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local community garden or fire department in Donald's memory, continuing his tradition of giving and service. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
