Donald "Dave" Wilson

December 23, 1948 — May 27, 2026

Donald "Dave" Wilson, a loving father, devoted grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, following an extended illness. Born on December 23, 1948, in Kansas City, KS, Dave lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Dave was the beloved son of Donald E. Wilson and Charlotte Ruth (Clark) Wilson. He was welcomed into a family that would later be shaped by the love and guidance of his stepfather, Joe Davis, and stepmother, BJ Wilson. Tragically, Dave was predeceased by several family members, including his beloved wife BJ, his parents, step-parents, brothers Dennis and Dan Wilson, and his niece, Laura Wilson. Despite these losses, Dave found strength in his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. He is survived by his children, Shawna Wilson and Donald David Wilson Jr., and his stepson, Robert Stankey Jr. Dave's memory will continue to inspire his six grandchildren—Amberlyn, Charles, Jessica, Triston, Emily, and Luke—and his four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Elliot, Emmalynn, and Amora. His brother Mike, sister Susan, and sisters-in-law Sandra and Linda also remain to cherish his memory. A proud alumnus of West High School's Class of 1966, Dave went on to serve honorably with the US Navy Seabees from 1968 to 1974, earning the distinction of a Vietnam Veteran. His dedication to his country was mirrored by his commitment to his craft. Dave honed his skills in carpentry both through a Navy program and later at Wichita State University from 1980 to 1982. He spent over 30 years in the construction industry, where his tireless work ethic and leadership earned him the role of Superintendent. Dave's life was as much about play as it was about work. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found solace in the great outdoors. He had a knack for working on cars and took pride in building furniture, projects that were as much about creativity as they were about craftsmanship. Dave also enjoyed bowling, a pastime he shared with friends and family, bringing laughter and camaraderie to the lanes. Known for his quick wit and directness, Dave was always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a gift for "telling it like it was," a quality that endeared him to many and ensured that those around him always knew where they stood. His genuine nature and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone he met. A service to celebrate Dave's life will be held on June 8, 2026, at White Chapel Cemetery, located at 1806 N. Oliver St., Wichita, KS 67208. As we gather to honor Dave's memory, we remember a man who lived fully and loved fiercely, whose spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dave's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his belief in helping others and making the world a better place. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories of Dave's laughter, love, and wisdom, forever grateful for the time we shared with him.
