Don Sherlock
June 21, 1956 — April 7, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Don Sherlock, who left this world on April 7, 2026, at the age of 69. Surrounded by the love of his cherished family, Don departed this life as he lived it—embraced by love and gratitude.
Born on June 21, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio, to Gurell and Velma Sherlock, Don was a man of humility and generosity. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life was a testament to kindness and selflessness. He graduated from Woodward High School in the Class of 1974, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors and lifelong friendships.
On June 1, 1976, Don married the love of his life, Suzan Louise Zeller. Together, they built a life centered around family, raising their two daughters, Samantha (Ben) and Stephanie, with unwavering love and support. Don and Suzan's marriage was a partnership of mutual respect and devotion that remains an inspiration to all who knew them. Though Suzan preceded him in death, their bond endures through their children and grandchildren.
Don's career as a millwright at Davis Besse showcased his exceptional skill and dedication. Known as a mastermind of handiwork, he was always willing to offer a helping hand, whether it was for family, friends, or anyone in need. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and community.
A man of deep faith, Don was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he participated in the dartball league for many years. His contributions to the church community were numerous, and his presence will be dearly missed by all who worshipped alongside him.
Don's passions extended beyond his work and faith. He was a rabid hockey player in his younger years, engaging in travel play until he began his family. Later in life, he found joy in hosting family gatherings at the Point Place Country Club, creating memories that will be cherished forever. His annual trips with grandson Lucas, brother-in-law Coug, and special friend E were highlights in his life, filled with adventure and camaraderie.
Don is survived by his beloved children, Samantha and Stephanie, and his precious grandchildren, Lucas, Adeline, Lily, and Evangeline, who brought immense joy to his life. He leaves behind his brother James Sherlock, sister Carol Niezgoda (Dave), mother-in-law Donna Zeller, sisters-in-law Diane Barbara (Coug) and Brenda Cureton (Jit), and dear friends John and Karen Sliwinski. His legacy is carried forward by many nieces, nephews, and a community of friends who were touched by his kindness.
In addition to his wife Suzan, Don was predeceased by his parents, Gurell and Velma Sherlock, father-in-law James Zeller, brother-in-law Marty Zeller, and sister-in-law Laurie Zeller. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited in eternal peace.
A service to honor Don's life will be held on April 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to Messiah Lutheran Church, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his faith community.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Zeller and Barbara families and the wonderful staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care and compassion during Don's final days.
Don Sherlock was a friend to all and an enemy to none. He lived a life of service, love, and generosity, always willing to give the coat off his back or the last dollar in his pocket to someone in need. His legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
