Born on May 24, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, Don was a beloved son of Carl and Mildred Lambert. His biological mother, Marie, passed shortly after his birth, leaving him in the loving care of his father and stepmother. Don's journey through life was marked by resilience, service, and an unwavering dedication to family and community. He served his country with honor as a member of the United States Marine Corps from September 1968 to 1970, continuing his commitment in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1974. Don was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Purple Heart, Rifle Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal, Don's bravery and dedication were evident in every aspect of his life. In 1970, Don married Linda, and together they adopted her sister's son, Donnie, in July 1979. Although their marriage ended in 1981, Don's devotion to his family remained steadfast. In May of 1995, he found love once more with Joan, and they built a life together in Portland, Oregon, raising their children with kindness and integrity. Don and Joan's marriage spanned 31 cherished years, filled with love and shared adventures. Don's professional life was spent at Esco, a steel foundry, where he worked from 1972 to 1982. His passion for his work was matched by his commitment to service organizations such as the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Through these affiliations, Don forged lifelong friendships and made significant contributions to his community. A man of many talents, Don found joy in woodworking, creating beautiful projects that brought smiles to many. His handcrafted banks for VA staff were treasured gifts, and his work was often showcased at local craft sales. He also found solace in nature, particularly while fishing on his pontoon boat or here at his cherished Blue Lake Park. Don's warmth, kindness, and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, transforming acquaintances into friends with his open-hearted nature. As an amazing father, he instilled these values in his children, Taylor, Kelly, and Misty, who, along with his wife Joan, sister Faye Elliott, and seven grandchildren, carry forward his legacy of love and compassion. Preceded in death by his sister Wanda, brother Joe, and son Donnie Jr., Don is now reunited with those he loved and lost. His family extends their heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers and the exceptional ICU staff at Portland Adventist who provided comfort and care during his final hospital stay. Don Lambert's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he touched. His life was a testament to kindness, courage, and the enduring power of love.
