Don Davenport

It is with profound sadness yet enduring gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Don Davenport, who left this world peacefully on July 26, 2026, at Ridge Crest Retirement Center. Born on March 25, 1936, in Goose Creek, Texas, Don’s journey through life was one marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Don was the cherished son of Don and MiniLee Davenport. He spent his formative years in Waco, graduating from Waco High School in 1954. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1955. Don proudly served aboard the USS Piedmont (AD-17) as a Communication Electrician, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Third Class (E-4) before concluding his service in 1961. Following his military service, Don embarked on a distinguished career in finance, dedicating 40 years to the Small Business Administration (SBA) and an additional eight years with the Fort Worth Economic Development. His work was characterized by a steadfast commitment to supporting the economic growth and development of his community. A man of great skill and creativity, Don was an avid carpenter who took great pride in building his own home and surrounding structures in Cameron, Texas. In his later years, he discovered a love of golfing, which brought him immense joy and camaraderie. Beyond his hobbies, Don found true fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life—reading and spending cherished moments with his sons and grandchildren. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nina Davenport. He is survived by his devoted sons and their spouses, Del and Debbie Davenport, and John and Shayla Davenport. His legacy lives on through his six treasured grandchildren: John Brady Davenport, Danielle Ann Davenport, James Blake Davenport, Elizabeth Courtney Davenport, Jerrod Brandon Davenport, and Dalton Wayne Davenport, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Callysta Dawn Davenport and Noah Carsen Andersen. A service to celebrate Don's life will be held on August 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Marak-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Don’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Ridge Crest Retirement Center, Visiting Angels, and Magnolia Hospice Care for their exceptional support and care. Don Davenport’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, service, and devotion to family will continue to inspire future generations.
