Don C. Chunn Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don C. Chunn Jr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who passed away peacefully at home on August, 15th, 2026, just one day before his 90th birthday. Born on August 16, 1936, in the United States, Don was a man of great dedication and commitment, both to his family and his country. Don was the cherished son of Don Carlos Chunn Sr. and Winnie Mae Batterton. He spent his formative years in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he graduated from Lakeside High School. He went on to further his education at Henderson Teachers College where he met his wife to be, Barbara Jo Fike of El Dorado, before earning his degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. Don's thirst for knowledge continued throughout his life, culminating in a Master’s degree in Psychology from Troy in 1976. A proud and decorated veteran, Don served in the United States Army for 26 years, displaying unwavering bravery and leadership. His service was recognized with numerous honors, including the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Master Parachutist, Pathfinder and the Air Medal with 30 Oak Leaf Clusters. Upon retiring from the army in 1984, Don embarked on a new chapter with Bell Helicopter, where he served as Vice President of International Sales and Marketing until his second retirement. Don's life was characterized by his deep love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Chunn, his devoted daughter, Donna Matheou, his loyal son, Mark Chunn and step daughter, Sharla Collins. He is also survived by his loving grand children, Kristy Brunner, Melissa Chunn, David Chunn, Presley and Parker Collins-Flores, and his great grand daughter Ellie Brunner. Don found immense joy in family vacations, particularly those spent on the sun-drenched beaches of Florida, creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid golfer and a passionate football fan, always cherishing moments spent with loved ones. A service to honor Don's life and legacy will be held at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 200 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. His family takes comfort in knowing that his life was well-lived and that he left a lasting impact on all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Don's memory to a charity of your choice. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
