Dolores Mae Whitehurst
July 19, 1932 — June 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dolores Mae Whitehurst, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who left this world peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the age of 93. Dolores was born on July 19, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas, to Dorotha Elizabeth Flint and Harold W. Dickens, who predeceased her.
In her remarkable journey through life, Dolores found love and companionship with Stephen Lewis Whitehurst, Jr., whom she married on February 19, 1949, in Thomasville, Georgia. Together, they shared 33 beautiful years of marriage, raising four wonderful children: Edward L. Whitehurst (Sharon), Kathy E. Trujillo (Sam), Sandra E. Dillard, and Connie E. Taylor.
Dolores's life was enriched by her large and loving family, including her grandchildren Christopher Dillard, Chere Dillard, Jason Whitehurst, Jennie Whitehurst, Sarah Lopez (Adam), Laura Trujillo, Victoria McLean (Michael), and Rebekah Bender (Mason). Her legacy further extends to her great-grandchildren Anjelica Dillard, Shannon Dillard, Teagan Rose Dillard, Kaylee Goldfeder, John Goldfeder, Aden Lopez, Brooklyn Lopez, Wesley Lopez, Elijah Lopez, and Caroline Bender. Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, and her parents, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of her surviving family members and friends.
Dolores dedicated her early life to being a devoted stay-at-home mom, nurturing her children with love and care until they were grown. With a steadfast resolve to complete her education, she proudly earned her GED on February 3, 1970. Later, she embarked on a fulfilling career at Campbell's Delivery Service, where she worked diligently as an accounts receivable clerk for 13 years.
A woman of deep faith, Dolores was an active member of Rayburn Drive Baptist Church, where she found joy in singing with the choir, teaching Sunday School, engaging with children during Vacation Bible School, and participating in the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) program. Her commitment to her church community continued at Churchill Baptist Church, where she delighted in helping with Wednesday night suppers.
Dolores had a passion for sewing, lovingly crafting clothes for her daughters and creating special items such as pajama bags and Easter baskets for her grandchildren. Her warm and nurturing spirit was felt by all who knew her, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
In her final days, Dolores received compassionate care from the staff at Agape Hospice, to whom the family extends their heartfelt gratitude. She will always be remembered and dearly loved by those whose lives she touched.
A private funeral ceremony will be held in her honor.
"Always loved; always remembered" – the words that encapsulate the essence of Dolores Mae Whitehurst, a woman whose life was a testament to love, faith, and family.
