Dollie was born on November 26, 1926, in the quaint town of Willie, Georgia, to James S. Barber and Dollie Futch Baber. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dollie Henson, and her devoted husband, Lloyd J. Henson, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
Dollie attended Chatham High School, where she laid the foundation for her future endeavors. With a passion for beauty and a heart full of ambition, she became the owner of Sherloas Beauty Salon and dedicated fifty years of her life as a talented beautician. Her salon was not just a place of work but a haven where her clients felt like family, welcomed by her warm smile and expert hands.
A faithful member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Dollie embodied the spirit of a good Christian woman. Her life was a testament to her faith, and she was known for her joyful spirit, thrifty nature, and unwavering love for those around her. Dollie's generosity knew no bounds; she was always willing to lend a hand, offer a comforting word, or share a hearty meal.
Dollie's culinary skills were nothing short of legendary. Her homemade fried chicken, mac & cheese, biscuits, and sweet tea were culinary masterpieces beloved by all who had the pleasure of tasting them. Her kitchen was a place where family and friends gathered, where stories were shared, and laughter echoed through the walls.
In her leisure time, Dollie found solace in fishing, cooking, and gardening. She had an innate talent for nurturing life, whether it was a flourishing garden or the hearts of her loved ones. Her knack for finding a good bargain was a testament to her thriftiness and resourcefulness, traits that she passed down to her family.
Dollie's legacy lives on through her daughters, Dianne Carpender and Cathy Ely, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was a doting grandmother to Jason Carpender, Nick Carpender, Drew Ely, Beth Ziefle, and Daniel Ely, and her heart swelled with love for her eight great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
A celebration of Dollie's remarkable life will be held on June 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel, located at 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
