It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Dick Henry Ryan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Dick departed this life on July 21, 2026, in the serene surroundings of Marble Falls in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, at the age of 86.
Born on January 1, 1940, in Little Axe, Oklahoma, Dick was the cherished son of Connie "Lee" and Bessie Ryan. He was the third of six brothers—Delbert, Bob, Tom, Bill and Gerald— Four of whom have predeceased him, leaving behind Bill and a legacy of brotherhood and camaraderie for Bill to cherish.
Dick was a proud alumnus of Mulhall High School, graduating in 1958, and he served his country with dedication and honor in the Oklahoma National Guard. His professional life was marked by a remarkable 40-year career at The Oklahoma Publishing Company, where he formed lasting friendships that he treasured deeply and considered an extension of his family.
In 1959, Dick married, Barbara, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure over 67 wonderful years. Their union included a daughter, Kathy Ercanbrack, who, along with her husband Lonny, brought immense joy to Dick's life. As a grandfather, Dick adored his granddaughter Paige Ward, and her husband Zak, and he took great pride in his great-grandson, Enzo Meriwether, who brought him boundless happiness and laughter.
Dick's life was a tapestry of rich experiences and passions. He was most at peace in the great outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, or simply enjoying the company of friends drinking adult beverages by a campfire. His mischievous smirk hinted at his spirited nature and a penchant for adventure, always ready to "engineer" a new idea with his unique blend of creativity and resourcefulness.
His legacy is carried on by his loving wife Barbara, his daughter Kathy, and his extended family of hunting and fishing buddies who will fondly remember his humor, ingenuity, and zest for life.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held on July 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, located at 220 N 1st St, Guthrie, OK 73044. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
