Obituary for Diania Sue Dunlap Charleston, WV, mourns the loss of one of its beloved daughters, Diania Sue Dunlap, who passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 75, after a long illness. Born on March 17, 1951, to Theodore and Mary Lekas, Diania's life was a testament to service, love, and resilience. Diania grew up in Charleston, WV, where she was nurtured by her parents, Ted and Mary, and later her stepfather, Dick Ash. She was predeceased by her husband, Louie Dunlap, and her sister, Denise Brewer, who were both integral parts of her life. Diania is survived by her son, Tony Dunlap, and his wife Shannon; her daughter, Kista Whitney, and her husband Bill; her brothers, Mike Lekas, Scott Ash, and Mark Ash; and her sisters, Annette Burns, Cathy Linville, and Sadaria Shinault. Her legacy is lovingly carried forward by her grandchildren Aaron Dunlap, Cole Whitney and his wife Kenzie, Clay Whitney and his wife Kendal, Madeline Dunlap, and five great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Diania attended St. Albans High School, graduating in 1969, and went on to graduate from the WV State Police Academy. She dedicated her career to law enforcement, serving with distinction as a Corporal with the South Charleston Police Department until her retirement. Known for her eclectic, elaborate collections and unfiltered humor, Diania's warmth and wit endeared her to many, as did her unwavering love for family and friends. Her family extends profound gratitude to Kanawha Hospice Care, and special thanks to Angie Allawat, RN, and Amber White, Home Health Aide. They also wish to acknowledge Shining Star Personal Care Home in Teays Valley for their exceptional care over the last two years, with heartfelt thanks to Kerri Savilla and her staff, Kim, Rachel, Karen, Sherry, Amber, and Sunshine. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Diania's life at a service on June 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, located at 409 6th Avenue, St. Albans, WV 25177. Diania Sue Dunlap leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service, reminding us all of the power of dedication and the importance of family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
