Diane Taplin

May 13, 1957 — July 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Taplin, who left us peacefully on July 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Diane was born on May 13, 1957, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Ronald Taplin and Barbara Engrav, who have both predeceased her. Diane's life was a testament to resilience, love, and an unyielding spirit. She grew up in St. Paul, where she attended Moundsview High School, graduating in 1975. Pursuing her passion for understanding the human mind and helping others, she later earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northwestern College in 2005. Diane's legacy is proudly carried on by her two beloved sons, Timothy LaPean and Jonathan LaPean. Timothy, along with his wife Kirsten and their two daughters, Winnie and Ruby, brought immense joy to Diane's life as her cherished grandchildren. Jonathan, together with his wife Thaisa, shared a profound bond with Diane that was marked by love and mutual respect. Diane is also survived by her dear sisters, Clara (Eric) and Patty (Steve), and her former husband, co-parent, and long-time friend, Russ LaPean. The tapestry of her family includes many nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances who will fondly remember her warmth and kindness. Diane found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly her morning cup of coffee enjoyed on the patio during nice weather. She had a talent for creating beauty, whether through her garden, her yard work, or the delicate beaded jewelry she fashioned with care. A woman of great compassion, Diane dedicated countless hours to sewing baby items for charity, ensuring that her creative talents benefited those in need. Summers were a special time for Diane, as she cherished the annual family vacations to the lake—a tradition born during the challenging days of the COVID pandemic that blossomed into a cherished family ritual. These moments were filled with laughter, love, and the creation of lasting memories that her family will hold dear forever. Diane's unwavering strength and grace in the face of adversity were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Diane's generous spirit and her commitment to making the world a better place. Though Diane has left this earthly realm, the love she shared and the lives she touched will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, forever cherished by her family and friends.
