October 2, 1943 — October 29, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Diane McGwier on October 29, 2026. Born on October 2, 1943, in Post Falls, Kootenai, Idaho, Diane lived a life full of love, service, and devotion to her family and community. Diane was the cherished daughter of Acil Avery McCown and Buenetta Siblerud McCown, who predeceased her, along with her beloved husband Robert McGwier, her son Michael McGwier, and her sister, Connie McCown Hensley. Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving children, Holly McGwier Butcher (Mark), Robert McGwier Jr. (Kim), and Beth Ann McGwier Leonardo (Chris). She leaves behind nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and supported with unwavering love and care. Diane's journey began in Kalispell, Montana, where she graduated from Flathead High School in 1961. That same year, she married her soulmate, Robert "Bob" McGwier, on August 26. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, filled with shared adventures and mutual support. A lifelong learner and early adopter of technology, Diane attended North Idaho College and continually sought opportunities to broaden her knowledge and skills. Her professional life was richly diverse, from her work as a talented seamstress and alterationist with Perfect Fit to her roles as a community leader and Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Children’s Teaching Leader. Diane's compassion shone brightly in her work as a caregiver, providing devoted care to her mother, her husband during his battles with cancer and Parkinson's, and more recently, through her employment with Home Instead. Diane was a vibrant member of the Coeur d’Alene Bible Church, Real Life Ministries, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, where she dedicated her efforts to helping students achieve their educational dreams through scholarships. Her passion for fiber arts was evident in her exquisite creations, including heirloom-quality blankets, home decor, and clothing. Known for her vivacious spirit and loving nature, Diane was a treasured friend to many, earning the affectionate title of "bestie" from those who knew her. She found joy in outdoor activities, such as water skiing, snow skiing, hiking, and fishing, and she cultivated a beautiful garden that reflected her nurturing character. A memorial service celebrating Diane's extraordinary life will be held on November 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, located on 4th Street in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago in her honor. Diane McGwier's legacy of kindness, strength, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her light, though dimmed, will shine brightly in our hearts forever.
