Diane Evelyn Visek

Diane Burns Floyd-Jones Visek, a remarkable woman whose journey was marked by curiosity, love, and a zest for life, passed away peacefully in the comforting embrace of her daughter’s home in Columbia, SC, on August 16, 2026. Born in Syracuse on November 26, 1940, Diane's life was a tapestry woven with education, adventure, and a profound love for her family. Diane's academic pursuits were diverse and impressive. She attended Skidmore College in class of 1962 majoring in Science Education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to MIT, where she delved into Euclidean Geometry, and to Tufts University, where she earned a certification in Audiology. She also obtained a certificate in Office Administration from Katherine Gibbs Boston. This extensive educational background paved the way for a varied and fulfilling career. Diane lent her talents to numerous fields, beginning as an Experimental Chef for American Home Magazine. Her career path took her to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as an Audiologist and then to St. Mary's Preparatory High School in Annapolis, MD, as a Teacher. She later became a Convention & Meeting Planner for International Paper Corp. and an Exhibitor Coordinator for the US Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD. Diane also served on the Board of Directors for Burns Supply Co. in Syracuse, NY. Her passion for life extended beyond her professional achievements. Diane was an avid skier, ice skater, and swimmer, delighting in the exhilaration of outdoor activities. Known for her vast grasp of knowledge, she once competed to be a contestant on Jeopardy, where she missed only three out of 100 questions. Diane cherished books, reading one a day, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, trivia games, and the companionship of cats. Diane enjoyed cruising the open seas on the Radisson Cruise Lines ship spending over 450 days on multiple voiges touching most every ports of call around the world. Her one wish was to visit the south pole which never happened. Diane’s personal life was as rich as her professional one. She was previously married to John Floyd-Jones from June 1962 until their divorce in June 1996. She later married Carl Stanley Visek in October 1999, until his passing in January 2009. For the past decade, she shared her life with her beloved life partner, Alan Wayne Mowery, from 2016 until her passing. Diane leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, Sara Floyd-Jones and John Floyd-Jones, and her grandchildren, Abigail, William, John G. Floyd-Jones, Robert Butler, and George Butler. Diane was predeceased by her parents, John and Evelyn Burns, her husbands, and her sisters, Marilyn and Nancy. Known for her leadership as President of the Anchorage Homeowners Association in Annapolis, MD, Diane’s contributions to her community were as steadfast as her love for her family and friends. Although no formal service will be held, as per her wishes, her ashes will be scattered in her beloved Spa Creek in Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, Diane's family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support shown during this difficult time. Diane's spirit will forever sail on the waters of Spa Creek, Baltimore, Md carried by the love of those who knew her.
