Diana V. Smith

August 9, 1958 — June 24, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Diana V. Smith, a cherished soul who left us on June 24, 2026, at her home. Born on August 9, 1958, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Diana was a beacon of love and kindness, touching the lives of everyone around her with her million-dollar smile and generous spirit. Diana was the beloved daughter of Marie and David Ridgeway, who preceded her in death, along with her devoted partner, William Booker. She is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor her memory: her husband, Kenneth M. Smith, and her daughter, Latasha N. Brown. Diana's legacy lives on through her four grandchildren, Elijah K. A. Brown, Ashleigh N. Bagner, Xavier J. Bagner, and Alexia S. Boughton, and her precious great-granddaughter, Ezariyah A. Ellis. She also leaves behind her bonus daughter, Latoya R. Harris, and a bonus grandchild, William O. Spratley III. Diana's brothers, Garcia E. Ridgeway (Judy) and Isaac Mabry, her niece, Dwan Jones (Brandon), nephews, Alonzo Reid and Garcia Ridgeway Jr. (Lauren), a great-nephew, Lorenzo Reid, and two great-nieces, Harmonie Hatten and Mackenzie Jones, along with many cousins and cherished friends from church and work, mourn her passing. Diana's life was marked by dedication and service. She graduated from Manor High School in 1976 and embarked on a year-long career at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard before enlisting in the United States Air Force in July 1979. Her nine-year military service was distinguished by courage and commitment, culminating in an honorable discharge in March 1988. Upon leaving the Air Force, Diana embraced the open road as a truck driver for North American Van Lines, where her passion for the profession led her to become an owner-operator. Her career journey took her to UPS and then to Federal Express, where she dedicated 20 years before returning to her beloved truck driving for another decade, finally retiring in 2023. Diana's unwavering love for Jesus and her family was the cornerstone of her life. Her generosity and willingness to help those in need were defining traits. She was a source of strength and comfort, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. A service to celebrate Diana's life will be held on July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Paradise Funeral Home, located at 811 E Blvd Suite 2, Williamston, NC 27892. The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered condolences and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to Pastor Nathaniel Thomas for delivering the eulogy, Mr. Omar Pearsall, Director of Paradise Funeral Home, for his professionalism and kindness, and to Latoya Harris for her unwavering support and compassion. In honor of Diana's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Diana’s generous spirit and dedication to helping others. Diana's light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. Her love, kindness, and strength will forever be remembered and cherished.
