Dian Lee Monahan, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 1, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 21, 1937, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dian was a beacon of faith, love, and resilience throughout her life. Her peaceful passing was marked by the presence of her cherished family, whose prayers surrounded her as she took her final journey. Dian's life was deeply rooted in her faith, a foundation laid in her childhood within a loving Christian home. Her father and brother, both Episcopal priests, imparted a profound spiritual legacy. Upon her marriage to Robert Monahan, Dian embraced the Catholic faith, a decision that enriched her life and became the cornerstone of her family’s spiritual journey. Her devotion to Jesus, her love for Mary, and her commitment to the Rosary were unwavering, providing her strength and solace in every season of life. Her marriage to Robert was blessed with six children. Despite enduring the heartache of losing five babies and her beloved son, Robert Todd, to cancer, Dian's faith never wavered. Her family was her greatest joy, expanding to include 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of her enduring love and legacy. For 35 years, Dian shared her passion for faith as a dedicated CCD teacher, instilling in many children the values she held dear. Her career path was as diverse as it was fulfilling, having worked as a dance instructor, Sunday school teacher, and account specialist. Dian was a woman of many talents, with a love for the fine arts, painting, and reading. Her life took a challenging turn twelve years ago when she suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed. Yet, Dian's spirit was unbreakable. She continued to live each day with dignity and purpose, offering her suffering to Jesus and finding joy in serving others. At Newport House, where she resided in her later years, Dian became a cherished ambassador, welcoming new residents and offering comfort to those in need. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met, earning her the affectionate title of "Sister Dian" from the staff and residents alike. Dian's legacy is one of unwavering faith, boundless love, and enduring kindness. She taught us that life’s value is not measured by independence or ease but by the love we give and receive. Her family finds solace in the belief that as she passed, she was lovingly guided by angels to her heavenly home, greeted by the Blessed Mother she cherished so deeply. She is predeceased by her parents, Orin and Mary Jane Hunkins; her husband, Robert Monahan; her son, Robert Todd Monahan; her daughter, Debra Monahan; her grandson, John Paul Hauser; and her great-grandson, Ambrose Samani. Dian is survived by her children: Linda Monahan, Tami Hauser (Tracy), Patrick Monahan (Sheila), Kelly O'Connell (James Jr), Kimberly McGlade (Randall), and Sean Monahan (Trisha). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Ron Newton, Nina Rock (Billy), Scott Hauser, AnnMarie Samani (Hector), Lily Hauser, Nathan Hauser, Joshua Hauser, Alayna Hauser, Jack Monahan, Jessica Monahan, Justin Monahan, Shannon Vacanti (Jamez), James O'Connell, Erin O'Connell, Joseph O'Connell, Brendan Monahan, Ellie Monahan, and Nora Monahan, and her great-grandchildren, Ronald Newton (Sabrina), Felicia Rieman (Trenton), Leigha, Hadley, Ellis, Huston Rieman, Cecilia, and Caspian Vananti. Dian's family kindly requests that memorials be directed according to the family’s wishes. Her life, rich in faith and love, remains a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
