It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deval “Jellz” Minor, who left us on August 26, 2026. Born on April 29, 1980, in the vibrant neighborhood of Harlem, NY, Deval was a beacon of love, joy, and light to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Deval’s journey through life was marked by his infectious spirit and unyielding love for his family and friends. Known for his kindness, humor, and the warmth he brought to every room, Deval had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel at ease and welcomed. His bright smile and gentle soul touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting impression that will be cherished forever.

He was also a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend who will fondly be remembered for the times spent playing old school games and sharing laughter, also mourn the loss of this extraordinary man.
Educated in Harlem, Deval attended Ps. 133, I.S. 195, Landmark Highschool, and Westside Highschool, where he earned his high school diploma. Throughout his career, he worked for multiple companies, always bringing his trademark enthusiasm and dedication to each role. Yet, it was outside of work where Deval truly thrived. He loved being outdoors, and his presence was the life of any gathering. Whether it was dancing, playing music, or sharing stories, he ensured that everyone was having a good time.
Deval was predeceased by his beloved grandmother Ora Lee Minor, grandmother Mary Benton, grandfathers Fred Minor and Sir Roger, sister/cousin Michealine “Missy” Minor, aunts Ramona Minor and Marie “Ess” Benton, and uncles Fred Jr Minor, Melvin Minor, Melvin “Jr” Benton, Marty Benton, and Michael Benton. His memory will be carried on by his surviving family, including aunts Yolanda Minor and Myrtle Benton, and uncle Marvin Benton.
A celebration of Deval’s life will be held on September 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church, located at 144 W 131st, New York, NY 10027. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time and wishes to share a special message: “Calm down tiger, I’m no longer suffering!”
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Deval’s memory. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Deval. You will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
