With profound sadness and enduring love, we announce the peaceful passing of Deserene Yvonne Staine (née Ysaguirre) on February 27, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on October 31, 1953, in Hattieville Village, Belize District, Belize, Deserene graced this world with her vibrant spirit for 72 wonderful years. Deserene was the cherished daughter of the late Louis and Castella Ysaguirre. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, her son Dwight Bowen, her great-grandchildren Dhru Staine and Zaelynn Buckley, her brothers Vince Ysaguirre and Giles (Julie) Ysaguirre, and her sister by choice, Audrey Reyes. Her memory will forever be cherished by her devoted husband, Richard Staine Sr., and her children: Richard Staine Jr. (Shana), Dwayne Staine (Brendalyn), Wilbert Dyer (Cece), Oswald Garnett, and William Crawford. Her daughters, Roshawn Ku (Danny), Donaldine Ysaguirre Muqtasid (M. Abdullah), and Denise Conners (Brandon Graham), will continue to honor her legacy. Deserene's love and guidance will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Dwight (Kendra), Breayne, Ajay, Sharina Buckley (Dorian), Sharissa, Rissean, Da'Nae, Zaphaun Ku, Markeim, Markeise Brown, Kiara, Khailah, Kalisha Hall, Kree Conners, Kehlani Graham, and Andre Arnold. Her great-granddaughter, Kaydee Staine, will carry her great-grandmother's light forward. She is survived by her brothers Louis (Arlene), Duane, and Gregory (Elsie Mae) Ysaguirre, and her sisters Glenda Westby, Vernadelle Bailey, and Castella Ysaguirre. Her sisters by choice, Sheldon Pollard and Linda Reyes, along with her sisters-in-law, Anna Segura and Avril Ysaguirre, will continue to celebrate her spirit. Deserene's legacy extends further to her godchildren, Albert Arnold and Dawn Reyes, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends too numerous to mention, all of whom will remember her with deep affection. A proud graduate of St. Hilda's College, Deserene embarked on a lifelong journey of education, becoming a beloved teacher for over 40 years. Her dedication to education shaped countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her students. A woman of remarkable vitality, Deserene enjoyed playing softball in her youth, dancing, and playing cards with friends. Her birthday casino visits were legendary among her family and friends. Deserene's big personality, unforgettable presence, and unwavering honesty made her a cherished friend to many. Above all, her grandchildren were the center of her universe, and her love for them knew no bounds. A celebration of Deserene's life will be held on March 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Hall, Los Angeles, California. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her nephew Shaphan Stamp, Louis Harris, Greenfield, and the dedicated staff of St. Francis Hospital's 5th floor and ICU. We are eternally grateful to all family and friends who provided their love and support during this time. Deserene Yvonne Staine will forever remain in our hearts, her spirit living on in those she so deeply loved and touched. May her soul find eternal peace.
