With profound sadness and enduring love, we announce the passing of Derek W. Armstead, a cherished soul who graced this world on May 31, 1971, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Derek departed this life peacefully on July 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and devotion to his family and community.
Born to the late William Richard and Loretta Armstead, Derek was a bold soul from birth, known for his spirited presence and the way he made others feel seen and valued. His life was a testament to love and commitment, especially evident in his marriage to Gabriella Frazier in 1989. Together, they built a nurturing home and raised their children, Sade, Dustin, and Darius, first in New Orleans and later in Texas. Derek's profound love for Gabriella was unwavering, and even in her passing, her memory was a guiding light in his life.
Derek's professional journey began as a truck driver, where he traversed countless miles across the nation. His career later transitioned to security work, a decision driven by his dedication to caring for his beloved wife. Despite the demands of his work, Derek always prioritized family, cherishing every moment spent with his children and, later, his four grandchildren: Danajah, Ronald, Rhiley, and Jahleiyah. These precious moments were the heartbeats of his life, filling his days with laughter and love.
Derek's family was the cornerstone of his existence. He is survived by his brother, Darnell Armstead I, and his beloved nephew and niece, Darnell II and Demyrie. His extended family, including aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and countless friends, will forever remember his generous spirit and the joy he brought to their lives.
A celebration of Derek's life will be held on July 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Murray Henderson Funeral Home, located at 1209 Tecghe Street, New Orleans, LA 70114. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor a life well-lived, sharing memories and stories that reflect his indelible impact on all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Derek's name to a charity of your choice, honoring his legacy of love and service to others.
Derek W. Armstead will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a steadfast friend. His bold spirit and profound presence will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Closing Words
The 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
for ever.
