Dennis "Denny" Ryan, a man of steadfast devotion and quiet strength, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on November 10, 1937, Denny began his life's journey in a small town known simply as "7." He was the beloved son of Robert Ryan and Alberta J. Alvord Nuebel. Denny was a man of unwavering commitment, both to his family and his work. He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his cherished wife, Shirley, who predeceased him. Together, they created a loving home, raising their dear daughter Denise, who, along with her husband Jeff McNabb, carries forward Denny's legacy of love and kindness. His spirit lives on in his two grandchildren and one great-grandchild, whom he adored beyond measure. Denny's life was marked by service and dedication. After graduating from high school in Mongo, Indiana, he answered the call to serve his country. From 1955 to 1958, Denny served in the Navy as a machinist, forming a foundation of discipline and resilience that would guide him throughout his life. His career as a skilled welder for Nipsco, along with his entrepreneurial spirit in self-employment, saw him installing and repairing furnaces—a testament to his industrious nature and commitment to providing for his family. Away from work, Denny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid sportsman, he delighted in fishing and played billiards with a keen eye and steady hand. Yet, it was on the golf course at Cedar Lake where Denny truly found his sanctuary, hitting golf balls every day and participating in leagues with passion and camaraderie. Those who knew Denny will remember him for his sharp wit and strong opinions, qualities that often sparked lively conversations and brought warmth to every gathering. Yet, behind his humor and straightforwardness was a heart profoundly devoted to those he held dear, a heart that cherished the bonds of family and friendship above all. Predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley, his parents, and his brother, Denny leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. His family and friends take solace in knowing that his life was well-lived, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him. A celebration of Denny's life will be held at a later date, a fitting tribute to a man whose life was a celebration of love, dedication, and joy. In honoring Denny, we remember a life lived with integrity and heart—a life that touched many and will be fondly remembered forever.
