It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis "Denny" Propst, who left this world on March 17, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on August 2, 1950, in Peoria, Illinois, Denny brought light and warmth into the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on his family, friends, and community.
Denny was the beloved son of Jack and Mary Propst, who instilled in him values of kindness and curiosity. He was preceded in death by his dear sister Beverly, brother Larry, and his beloved son Dylan, as well as his parents, Jack and Mary. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Denny is survived by his devoted sisters Sharon Pentecost, Marilee Wood, Susan Legel, and Tammy Dunham, who remember him fondly as a great brother, known for his quick wit and insightful observations. His presence in their lives was a source of joy and comfort, and his quiet wisdom often provided guidance in times of need.
A man of many talents, Denny embarked on a varied career, first capturing the rhythm of life as a drummer in local bands, including Kool Ray and the Polariodz and Ready Steady Go. His passion for music was infectious, and he delighted in sharing this love with others, creating melodies that resonated with all who were fortunate enough to hear them. Later, he found fulfillment in serving his community as a U.S. Postal delivery employee, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor.
Outside of work, Denny was an avid lover of the outdoors, often found hiking the trails of local parks, immersed in nature's beauty. A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, he held a steadfast loyalty to his team, celebrating their victories and enduring their losses with unwavering spirit.
Denny's insightful comments on current events and his keen observation of human behavior were a testament to his thoughtful nature. He had a unique ability to understand the world around him, always offering a perspective that was both enlightening and compassionate.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Denny's memory, honoring his commitment to helping others and supporting causes close to his heart.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to friends and loved ones for their compassion and support during this difficult time. A memorial service to celebrate Denny's life will be announced at a later date, where stories and memories will be shared in remembrance of a truly remarkable man.
Though Denny's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit, music, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. May we find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind and the knowledge that he is now at peace, reunited with those he cherished.
