Obituary of Dennis Martineau
Superior, Wisconsin - Dennis Martineau, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on May 24, 2026, at the age of 72, after a bravely fought battle with recurring cancer. Born on August 24, 1953, in the close-knit community of Superior, Dennis was a beacon of strength and kindness, whose legacy will continue to warm the hearts of all who knew him.
Dennis was the cherished son of Myrtle Kolek, who predeceased him, along with his sister Maxine Dietel, brothers Edward and Thomas J Martineau, niece Rebecca Martineau, and his first wife, Susan A Martineau. Despite these profound losses, Dennis remained a pillar of love and resilience, carrying forward the values instilled in him by his family and enriching the lives of those around him.
A dedicated professional, Dennis devoted his career to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe, where he served with distinction, ultimately retiring as a Fire/Safety Warden. His commitment to safety and his colleagues earned him deep respect and admiration, marking his career with the same integrity and dedication that defined his personal life.
Dennis was a man of many passions. He found great joy in coaching Little League baseball, guiding young athletes for 15 fulfilling years with SYO. His enthusiasm for the game was matched only by his love for his players, many of whom he inspired and mentored both on and off the field. Prior to his health challenges, Dennis was an avid racquetball player, a dedicated gardener, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of walking his granddog, Lambeau. These activities filled his days with happiness and were a testament to his boundless energy and zest for life.
Dennis is survived by his devoted soulmate of nearly 20 years, Rachel Austreng, whose love and partnership brought profound joy to his life. He also leaves behind Rachel’s sons, Tyler (Sarah) Austreng and Dustin Austreng, with whom he shared cherished memories and familial bonds. Dennis’ legacy continues through his son, Thomas (Amie) Martineau, his brother Douglas (Genieveive) Martineau, and his five amazing grandchildren, Kaelyn, Mikhael, Mia, Maddie, and Chloe, as well as his three adorable great-grandchildren, Chase, Brooklyn, and Ashton. These dear ones were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
Dennis’ life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and community. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering support. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections.
A memorial service to honor Dennis Martineau's remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dennis’ memory to a local youth sports program or cancer research foundation of your choice.
Dennis, you will be deeply missed, but your legacy of love and kindness will endure in our hearts forever.
