Dennis Leon Lane

Dennis Leon Lane, born on October 31, 1948, in Clarinda, Iowa, passed away on July 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that touched the lives of all who knew him. Dennis was the beloved husband of Jeanne Porter Lane, with whom he shared 58 joyful years of marriage. They were wed on April 6, 1968, in the United Methodist Church in Mitchellville, Iowa. Together, they built a life centered on family, adventure, and shared passions. Dennis was a proud graduate of Leon High School in Leon, Iowa. He pursued further education in Des Moines, Iowa, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Sheet Metal Technology. His career was marked by several accomplishments, but his work on the St. Louis Arch in Missouri remained one of his most cherished achievements. Dennis was also an entrepreneur, purchasing a business in Granby, Colorado, and working on the Cook Ranch as well as Logging. He contributed significantly to his family's business, Lane Drilling Company, but found his true calling with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, where he worked passionately until his retirement in 2013. An avid outdoorsman, Dennis embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He found joy in fishing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and horseback riding. His love for travel and adventure was matched by his passion for motorcycling, and he was well known for his appreciation of history. A skilled carpenter, Dennis had an uncanny ability to create and repair anything with precision and artistry. Above all, Dennis cherished the time spent with his family. He was a devoted father to Andrew (Suzanne) Lane and Jennifer (Dean) Duran. His grandchildren, Hannah and Jake Lane, Turner Murphy, Holli, Ethan, and Calvin Duran, along with his six great-grandchildren—Everly Grube, Kade, Bailey, Harper, Kinleigh, and Mia Duran—were the lights of his life. He found immense joy and pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent together. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Carroll and Betty Lane, and his sister, Joyce Lane. He is survived by his Brothers, David (Karen)Lane; Donnie(Delaine)Lane; his sister,Jannette Hansen; his loving wife Jeanne, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor his memory by living life with the same kindness and generosity he so freely gave. A private funeral service will be held to celebrate Dennis's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice, in honor of Dennis's generous spirit and his lifelong commitment to helping others. Dennis Leon Lane will be remembered as a man of integrity, warmth, and compassion. His legacy is one of unwavering love and dedication to his family, his work, and his community. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
