Dennis Jones
February 13, 1957 — May 28, 2026
With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Dennis Jones, who left this world on May 28, 2026, after a silent battle with cancer. Born on February 13, 1957, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Dennis was a beacon of laughter, love, and resilience, touching the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Dennis was the cherished son of the late Mr. Willie and Sarah Jones. He grew up surrounded by the warmth and camaraderie of his family, including his beloved twin sister, Denise Jones, and his predeceased brothers Willie Jr., Henry, and Archie Jones. His early years were spent in Greenwood, Mississippi, where he attended Greenwood High School, forming the foundation of his life's journey.
In December of 1976, Dennis found his soulmate in Carmen Howell, with whom he shared a beautiful partnership that spanned nearly five decades. Together, they built a loving family, bringing into this world their son, Lil Dennis (affectionately known as Neet), and their daughter, Crystal. Dennis also embraced the role of a father to his stepdaughters, Kisha, MaryLee, and Hyshemai, with the same devotion and affection that he gave to his own children.
Dennis was a man of simple pleasures, finding joy in the company of his family and friends. His laughter was a gift, capable of lighting up any room and making those around him feel loved and valued. Whether he was watching his favorite basketball game or sharing a joke, Dennis exuded a laid-back and smooth personality that endeared him to everyone.
He was a hardworking man, dedicated to providing for his family through various jobs. Ever generous, Dennis was the first to lend a helping hand, always going the extra mile for those he cared about. His sense of humor and ability to see the light in any situation made him a treasured presence in the lives of many.
Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his life partner, Carmen Howell, his children, Lil Dennis and Crystal, stepdaughters Kisha, MaryLee, and Hyshemai, and his adored grandchildren, Tiyel, Imani, Malaysia, Journey, Marquis, Markeena, and Bryson. His great-granddaughters, Nazir and Angel, will grow up knowing the warmth of their great-grandfather's smile through the stories shared by those who loved him. Dennis is also survived by his sister Denise and his nephews Tyrel and Tavaris, who will carry forward his spirit of humor and kindness.
A celebration of Dennis's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at Gatlings Chapel, located at 10133 S. Halsted Street, Chicago, IL 60628. Family, friends, and all whose lives Dennis touched are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a man whose life was a testament to love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
As we say goodbye to Dennis, we hold onto the joy he brought into our lives, cherishing the moments and the memories that will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Dennis, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
