September 2, 1974 — May 14, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis J. Root, who departed this life unexpectedly on May 14, 2026, at John Dempsey Hospital. Born on September 2, 1974, in Hartford, CT, Dennis was the cherished son of the late Frank M. Root and Sandra J. (Duguay) Root. He was also the beloved grandson of Gerald Root, who predeceased him. Dennis was a devoted husband to Jennifer E. (Veitch) Root, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage, a partnership filled with love, laughter, and mutual support. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home in Canton, CT, where they raised two beautiful daughters, Kaila and Kelly Veitch, who were the pride and joy of Dennis's heart. He was also a loving dog dad to his Siberian Huskies, Lenny and Freya and Franky the Chihuahua. A graduate of NWR7 in 1992, Dennis furthered his education at Porter & Chester, paving the way for a rewarding career as a wireless field technician with AT&T. Over 26 years, Dennis became not only a respected colleague but a cherished member of his AT&T work family. His dedication and expertise left a lasting impression on those with whom he worked. Dennis was also a chief steward for his local 1298 CWA union, working with other members, coworkers and valued friends. Beyond his professional life, Dennis was a man of many passions. An enthusiastic motorcyclist, he embraced the Harley Davidson lifestyle wholeheartedly, finding freedom and joy on the open road. As an active member of the CT chapter of HOG and CT Motorcycle Rides and Events, Dennis shared his love of riding with a community that appreciated his adventurous spirit. He was just starting to enjoy hunting trips with his cherished friends, self named "Fat Guys Who Miss A Lot". He was also a die-hard fan of the band Ghost, and their music brought him immense happiness. Dennis was a man of remarkable character, known for his unwavering kindness and readiness to help others. His friendships were treasures, and he was a phone call away for anyone in need. Above all, Dennis was a fiercely devoted husband and father, whose love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. In honoring Dennis's memory, the family will hold a celebration in his honor at a later date. They extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Canton first responders for their tireless efforts and encourage donations in Dennis's memory to the Hartford Animal Shelter, 120 Rescue Lane, Bloomfield, CT 06002, an organization close to his heart. Dennis's legacy of love, kindness, and friendship will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many. May he ride in eternal peace.
