Dennis Graydon Rourke It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Graydon Rourke, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the Gray Birch Long Term Care Facility. Born on April 25, 1955, in Augusta, Maine, Dennis was the cherished son of Graydon Palmer Rourke and Shirley Simmons Bridges. Dennis was a man who faced life's challenges with resilience and grace. Preceded in death by many treasured family members, including his grandparents, father Graydon Rourke, mother Shirley Bridges, brother Timothy Rourke, nephews Jeffrey Freeman and Kyle Foyt-Bridges, and stepfather Dexter Bridges Sr., Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his brother Dexter Buzz Bridges and wife Theresa of New Sharon, sister Lori Bridges Gambino and husband Peter of Monmouth, sister-in-law Sandra Rourke of Readfield, and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his dear friend and neighbor, Jack Benson from Belgrade. Dennis's educational journey took him through the schools of Winthrop and Monmouth, where he developed a passion for learning and exploration. His professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. He took pride in his role picking up shredded paper from state employers, enjoying the freedom of the road in a tractor-trailer truck. His time in the forestry business was cut short by an accident, yet he maintained an indomitable spirit, later serving on the Linc board of directors and earning an outstanding achievement award in 1997-98. A man of diverse interests, Dennis was an avid sports lover and a proud competitor in the Special Olympics, where his talents shone brightly. He placed first in Maine and traveled to Michigan for the nationals, securing a third-place finish. Dennis's love for sports extended to managing the Linc club softball team in Augusta, where his home runs were legendary. Dennis's hobbies were as varied and vibrant as his personality. He delighted in watching sports, particularly the Patriots and Red Sox, and found joy in NASCAR races, cheering on his favorite, Dale Earnhardt. Wrestling and Westerns also captured his imagination, as did collecting sports cards, an endeavor that brought him great joy over the years. Those who knew Dennis remember him as a generous soul with a heart full of kindness. He cherished family gatherings, especially birthdays and Christmas, where his greatest pleasure was in giving gifts to his loved ones. True to his Taurus nature, Dennis was both forthright and playful, known for his pet names and good-natured ribbing. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to MGMC, Glenridge Rehab, and Gray Birch Long Term Care for their compassionate care of Dennis. Special thanks to his case manager, Kathy Merrifield, and shared living supervisor, Andrea Henry, for their unwavering support and dedication. In remembrance of Dennis's generous spirit, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in his honor. Dennis Graydon Rourke will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, generosity, and humor will live on in the hearts of many.
