Dennis B. Mahon
August 30, 1962 — October 1, 2026
In loving memory of Dennis B. Mahon, who passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, at the West LA VA Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his life, Edie Ann Mahon, and his devoted sister, Susan M. Mahon-Coburn. Born on August 30, 1962, in Passaic, NJ, Dennis lived a life full of music, service, and joy, touching the hearts of all who knew him.
Dennis was the cherished son of the late Michael F. Mahon, Sr. and Helen Doris Jago Mahon. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, his maternal grandmother Helen Hannigsn Jago, two infant sisters Mary and Michelle, and his dear friend Bob Crooks, with whom he joined the military in 1980 on the Buddy System.
Dennis is survived by his adoring wife of 39 years, Edie A. Mahon, with whom he shared a beautiful life and marriage since their courthouse wedding on February 19, 1993, and subsequent church wedding on May 1, 1993. Together, they weathered life's storms and cherished nearly four decades of partnership.
Dennis leaves behind a loving family: his sisters Margaret Ellen Mahon Willhite and Susan M. Mahon-Coburn, brothers Michael F. Mahon, Jr. and Kevin P. Mahon, along with their spouses. His legacy also includes his treasured nieces and nephews and their families, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews who brought joy to his life.
A proud veteran, Dennis served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, reaching the esteemed rank of E-7 Master Sergeant. His service took him across the globe, from New Mexico to Korea, the Philippines to Japan, and finally to Glendale, AZ. After retiring from the Air Force in 2002, Dennis embarked on a successful 22-year career as a Freedom of Information Act Officer at NASA JPL in La Canada, Pasadena, CA, retiring on the very day he passed.
Dennis’s life was driven by his passion for music, a love kindled at the tender age of five when he received his first drum set. Over the years, his self-taught mastery of music brought him to stages worldwide, playing in cover bands both during his military service and as a civilian. He was a devoted fan of progressive rock, attending and performing at festivals like PROGstock and POTR, where his talent and enthusiasm left a lasting mark.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Dennis had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. His humor, kindness, and generosity were the hallmarks of his character, touching many lives and leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
A service to celebrate Dennis's life will be held on November 24, 2026, at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, located at 2121 South Rural Road, Tempe, AZ 85282.
