It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Denise Robecca Pannell, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on March 26, 2026. Born on August 25, 1960, in Washington, D.C., Denise lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community. Denise was the beloved daughter of Rolnus and Barbra-Jean Pannell, who imbued her with values of kindness and resilience. She was a devoted sister to Donna, Ricky, Reds, Merriette, and Duane, who, along with her, shared countless memories and experiences that shaped their lives. Throughout her formative years, Denise attended Bundy Elementary, Shaw Junior High, and Cardoza High School, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong desire to learn and grow. Her journey of education was crowned with her graduation from JobCorp, which paved the way for her remarkable career at the IRS. For over 53 years, she served diligently as an assistant finance manager, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues for her unwavering dedication and meticulous nature. Denise's heart was most full when surrounded by her family. She was the proud and loving mother of Emerald Grant and Angelina Gomez, who were her greatest joy and legacy. Her grandson, Jett Gomez, was the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with him. Denise was also a guiding force for her extended family, including Domonique, Shameka, James, Little Ricky, Robert, Daniel, Tasyiah, Shamia, Eric, Little Duane, Westley, Johnathan, Jackalyn, and Mya. Her home was a haven of warmth and creativity, where she delighted in knitting and crocheting gifts for her loved ones. Denise had an innate talent for capturing life's beautiful moments through photography, a testament to her belief in cherishing memories. Her lively nature and spirited sense of humor were infectious, often bringing smiles and laughter to those around her. Denise was a protector and nurturer, always ready to embark on spontaneous adventures that left lasting impressions on everyone she met. While her family grieves her loss, they wish to celebrate the vibrant and nurturing spirit that Denise embodied. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and joy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Denise's life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Capital Mortuary for their compassionate understanding and patience during this difficult time.
