Born on November 19, 1959, in Carbondale, Illinois. Denise's early years were spent in Vermont which she gladly claimed as home. Denise embraced life with a strength and spirit that inspired all who knew her. Denise was the cherished daughter of the late Dr. Cleveland Alexander Williams and Camilla Walling Williams. She is survived by her mother and siblings, Vincent (Margaret), Michelle, Michael (Cindi), Bernard, and David (Jacoba). She left behind 10 nieces and nephews (Gavin, Kevin, Alex, Scott, Alain, Erin, Chelsea, Lauren, Monique and Michael Jr) an uncle and aunt (Lionel Walling and Mabel Walling), cousin Helmut Henry and other extended family. A proud alumna of Winston Salem State University, Denise graduated in 1982, embarking on a career in healthcare as a phlebotomist and laboratory technician. Her love for learning and teaching extended beyond her professional life, as she passionately tutored students from kindergarten through college in math and science and taking great joy as the students progressed. Through the years many students kept in contact, thanking her and reporting on their ambitions and careers. Denise was a quiet but proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she enjoyed cooking and gardening where she found joy in creating a beautiful garden and sharing the harvest with family and friends. Denise had a love for music from the 70s and 80s and could be heard playing music and singing along while gardening. Her laughter and love are memories that will be cherished forever. Her family's gratitude extends to the incredible care team at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Oncology, whose friendship and support provided comfort during Denise's courageous battle with cancer. In her memory, donations can be made to this organization, continuing Denise's legacy of care and compassion. Denise leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering support. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and dedication, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has left this world, the impact of her life will continue to resonate, carried in the hearts of those who loved her. In honor of Denise's wishes there will not be a funeral service. The family will hold a small Celebration of life in the future. Rest in peace, dear Denise, knowing that you were deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
