July 24, 1959 — May 14, 2026
It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Denise Antoinette Benson Archie, who departed this world on May 14, 2026, at the age of 66. Surrounded by her loved ones at her home, Denise left this world in the comforting embrace of those who cherished her dearly.
Born on July 24, 1959, in Camden, New Jersey, Denise was the beloved daughter of Paul T. Smith and Ruth E. Smith. Her early years in Camden shaped a woman of great warmth, generosity, and resilience. Denise was a proud graduate of the Camden City Schools, having completed her education as part of the Class of 1978.
Throughout her life, Denise wore many hats, both professionally and personally, always with grace and unwavering dedication. She held various roles, from working at Tyco and Shop N Bag to serving as a Camden City Crossing Guard. She also extended her compassionate spirit at Boyd Funeral Home, and her final professional endeavor was with Parents Invincible, where her commitment to bettering her community was celebrated.
Denise's life was a testament to the power of love and family. Married to her devoted husband, Howard J. Archie, on May 28, 1988, Denise reveled in the joy and companionship that their nearly four-decade-long union provided. Together, they built a loving home and nurtured a family that continues to honor her legacy.
A proud mother, Denise is survived by her son, Jeffrey R. Benson and his wife, Jacqueline Benson, and her daughter, Patrice L. Shamsiddeen and her husband, Isaiah F. Shamsiddeen Sr. She was a cherished sister to James J. Brown, and the doting grandmother to Rachaun, Marc, Isaiah Jr., and Pierre-Hassan, affectionately known as "Sunshine." Her great-grandchild, Bryce, along with a multitude of others who lovingly called her "Grandma," were blessed by her nurturing presence.
Denise was preceded in death by her parents and her dear brothers, Kevin Benson and Thomas Benson, whose memories she kept alive through stories and cherished recollections.
In addition to her family, Denise's life was enriched by her hobbies and interests, which included a deep appreciation for community service, and a love for simple pleasures shared with friends and family. Her home was often filled with laughter, kindness, and the aroma of delicious meals prepared with love.
She is also survived by a host of other family members and friends, including Regina, Kim, Jilly From Philly, Vine, Bart, Keith, Candy, Eleanor, Emma Coleman, Marie, and June, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Denise's legacy is one of love, strength, and compassion. Her indomitable spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. As we remember Denise, we celebrate a life filled with love and service, and a heart that was always open to those in need.
A memorial service to honor Denise's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories and celebrate the beautiful life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Denise's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her generous spirit and commitment to making the world a better place.
Denise Antoinette Benson Archie will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. Her light will shine brightly in the hearts of all who were privileged to know and love her.
