It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Denise Alverta Powell on April 21, 2026. Born on February 2, 1959, in Washington D.C., Denise departed from this world peacefully, surrounded by love and care at the Loma Linda University Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Denise was the cherished daughter of Maurice Bernard Powell and Fannie Mae White, who predeceased her, along with her beloved brother, Maurice Powell Jr. She is survived by her devoted child, Bree Ashley Haro, and her treasured sibling, Monique Jimmerson. Her legacy of love continues through her grandsons, Dylan Asher Haro and Caleb Henry Haro, and her dear nephews, Mark Jimmerson and Armani Jimmerson. Denise's extended family, including Evelyn, Stephanie, Nancy, and Maddie Haro, along with close friends who became family, Shirley and Josh Lewis, and Sarah Cunningham, will forever hold her memory in their hearts. For over four decades, Denise dedicated her life to healthcare administration and retail, coupling her professional endeavors with an unwavering commitment to volunteerism through churches and the Girl Scouts. Her career was not just a series of jobs but a journey of building lasting relationships. To know Denise was to be embraced by her caring nature, to share in her effervescent spirit, and to become a part of her ever-growing family. Denise was renowned for her infectious laughter and warm, inviting smile. Her vibrant presence was a source of joy and comfort to all who crossed her path. She was affectionately known as the "Mama Bear," always ready to welcome friends of her daughter as her own, transforming colleagues into beloved family members. Her knack for making others feel special was unmatched, whether she was attending a birthday party, a baby shower, a performance, or a work event. Denise had an innate ability to be present, to listen, and to offer her wise counsel, making everyone feel valued and heard. Beyond her professional and social accomplishments, Denise found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and friends. Whether venturing out or staying in, she cherished every moment spent creating memories. Her grandsons, Dylan and Caleb, were the light of her life, and she delighted in taking them on adventures, from park outings to shopping trips and ice cream escapades. A celebration of Denise's life will be held on May 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, Cypress Chapel, located at 24145 Barton Rd., Loma Linda, CA 92354. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses and caregivers who supported Denise throughout her medical journey, and to the Loma Linda University Medical Center ICU team, whose compassionate care provided comfort in her final days.
