Dena Day Preston
November 23, 1948 — September 30, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dena Day Preston, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on September 30, 2026. Born on November 23, 1948, in Llano, Texas, Dena's journey through life was marked by unwavering strength, kindness, and a tenacious spirit that inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dena was the cherished daughter of the late Rev. Cedric and Thelma Day and found joy in the company of her family throughout her life. She was deeply loved by her surviving spouse, Jack Preston, with whom she shared a loving marriage since December 16, 2006. Together, they found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, including sitting in their backyard, sipping coffee, and watching hummingbirds flit by.
Her early years were spent as a dedicated secretary for Jim Walter Homes, and she also explored her creative side as a hairdresser. Dena's true calling, however, was her role as a homemaker, where she created a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends.
Dena's quick wit and warm smile were her trademarks, always ready with a joke or a light-hearted tease to bring laughter to those around her. Known for her honesty, she never hesitated to speak her mind, be it good or bad, and her candid nature was both refreshing and endearing.
A devoted member of her church community, Dena found solace and joy in her faith. She was a woman of remarkable strength, having bravely faced and won three battles with cancer, all the while ensuring her loved ones felt her unwavering love and support.
Dena's legacy lives on through her devoted family. She is survived by her sisters, Arlene Roethler and Janell Cox, and her brother, Rev. Terry Day, and his wife, Karen. Her loving family also includes her son, Damon James and his wife, Debbie; stepchildren, Mark James and his wife, Dana, Lisa James, Samantha Mauldin, Jack Preston and his wife, Sylvia, and Tabitha Preston. Dena was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and her extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were a constant source of joy and pride.
In addition to her parents, Dena was predeceased by her sister, Leslie "Snookie" Thomison.
As we remember Dena Day Preston, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with humor, love, and resilience. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she touched.
