In loving memory of Dena Sutton, who passed away peacefully at the age of 102, with her beloved son by her side, we celebrate a life filled with kindness, devotion, and love. Born on September 21, 1924, in McLeansboro, Illinois, Dena was the cherished daughter of Wilford and Grace (Griffith) Campbell. She was a devoted sister to Dale, Doyle, and Delma, all of whom predeceased her, along with her nephew, Mike Campbell. Dena's early years were marked by her commitment to education, graduating from McLeansboro High School with multiple perfect attendance awards—a testament to her dedication and perseverance. On June 20, 1952, she married the love of her life, John Wilfred Sutton, in a beautiful ceremony in McLeansboro. Their union was a testament to love and partnership until John's passing. Dena dedicated 31 years of her life to the banking industry, retiring from First State Bank of Eldorado, Illinois. Her career was underscored by her reliability and commitment, traits that were evident in every aspect of her life. A devout member of the Eldorado First Baptist Church, she shared her faith by teaching children's Sunday School for many years, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. A woman of varied interests, Dena found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved solving word-search puzzles and cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandsons, Jared and Jeremy, and great-grandchildren, Paige and Blaine. Her passion for sports was unwavering, as she avidly followed the Indiana Pacers and the St. Louis Cardinals. When games were not on television, she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune with her son, creating treasured moments of laughter and camaraderie. Dena will be remembered for her kindness, punctuality, and unwavering commitment to her family. She leaves behind her son Dennis A (D A) Sutton and daughter-in-law Sherry; grandsons Jared and Jeremy (Katie) Sutton; great-grandchildren Paige and Blaine Sutton; and her loving niece Jana Campbell Hughes, along with nephews Phil (Judy) and Jim (Claudia) Campbell. A services to honor Dena's remarkable life will be held on October 9, 2026, at the Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, located at 700 4th Street, Eldorado, IL 62930. The 1:00 funeral will be preceded with visitation starting at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Eldorado in her memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Bell Oaks Place Assisted Living, Gentiva Hospice, Dr. William Smith of Deaconess Health, Beverly Gibbs of First Southern Baptist Church, and hairdresser Karen Baggett for their exceptional care and compassion.
