Demetrius Ware
April 5, 1979 — April 12, 2026
In the early morning of April 12, 2026, the world became a little dimmer with the passing of Demetrius Ware, a man whose laughter and warmth touched all who were fortunate enough to know him. Born on April 5, 1979, in Lansing, Michigan, Demetrius was a beacon of light, whose generous spirit and unyielding positivity left an indelible mark on the hearts of family, friends, and community alike.
Demetrius was the beloved son of Carol Ward and Melvin Ware. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Karen Ware; stepfather, Mike Ward; mother-in-law, Janet Rentz; and stepbrother, Mathew Ward. He leaves behind his devoted spouse, Dawn Kildee, who became the love of his life on July 11, 2011. Their union was a testament to love’s enduring power, as they remained inseparable throughout the years, right up until his last breath.
His legacy of love and laughter is carried on by his children: Christopher, Malachi (Marissa), Avery, Demetrius Jr., Amarianna Nacius, and Justin. His siblings, Justin, Jessica (Joe), Hattie, Deanna, Courtney (Casey), Heather, Bridget (Patrick), Michael, Candi, Brandi, Melissa, and sister-in-law, Laura (Jeff), will forever cherish his memory. Demetrius was also a loving uncle to nieces Alexis, Jazmine, Aleia, Chloe, Mattie, Isabelle, and Scarlet, and nephews Anthony, Xavier, Jayce, Jalil, Jaden, Dominique Jr., and PJ. His great-nephews, Braxton, Landon, and Saint, and cherished grandchildren, Khyro, Melia, and Evalina, will grow up knowing the stories of the incredible man he was.
Demetrius attended Eastern High School before answering the call to serve his country. In December 1997, he joined the United States Marines, serving with honor as a mechanic until November 2000. His dedication to service was later echoed in his civilian life, where he worked tirelessly, first managing at KFC, then as a shift lead at FHI, and finally at Ryder Logistics. Throughout these roles, he was known for his exceptional leadership and the kindness he extended to all.
Beyond his professional life, Demetrius was a man of diverse passions. He was an avid bowler, participating in numerous leagues, and found solace in fishing during the warm months. Though he never had much time for it, Demetrius loved to put his tree stand in the middle of nowhere and shoot at deer. His love for gaming, especially shooter games on the Xbox, and collecting dragon-themed items brought him joy and camaraderie with friends and family.
Demetrius's personality was a tapestry of humor and empathy. Known for his wisecracks and infectious laughter, he was always just a call away whenever someone needed a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. His home was his sanctuary, and his family was his treasure. He possessed one of the biggest hearts, always seeking the good in others and viewing life through a lens of optimism. A steadfast friend and confidant, Demetrius was the embodiment of loyalty and compassion.
In the face of an unexpected diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer, Demetrius demonstrated remarkable courage and grace, qualities that defined his life. Though he has left this world, the warmth of his spirit continues to illuminate the lives of those he touched.
A celebration of Demetrius's life will be held to honor his memory and the extraordinary life he led. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to cancer research, ensuring that his fight may help others in the future.
Demetrius Ware will be forever remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, cherished son, loyal brother, and faithful friend. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
