With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Deloris Mae Peterson, who departed this world peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the Mahnomen Care Center, enveloped by the love of her family.
Born on July 4, 1936, in the quaint town of White Earth, Minnesota, Deloris was the cherished daughter of John and Emma Kier. She was the youngest in a lively household that included four brothers and five sisters, all of whom predeceased her. Their spirited upbringing on the family farm near Island Lake, MN, instilled in her a deep appreciation for family, resilience, and the beauty found in simple joys.
Deloris attended a small country school near Island Lake, where her love for learning and community first took root. Her journey through life was marked by love and companionship. She first married James Fisher of Lengby, Minnesota. Together, they nurtured a family of five children on their farm, creating a home filled with laughter and warmth. After James's passing, Deloris found love again with Glen Peterson of Bagley, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with five more children, testament to Deloris's boundless capacity to love and nurture.
Throughout her life, Deloris was known for her quick wit and infectious sense of humor. Her laughter was a melody that brought joy to all who knew her. She was an exceptional cook and baker, with recipes that have become family heirlooms. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, always filled with the aroma of freshly baked treats and the warmth of her welcoming smile.
Professionally, Deloris dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at care centers in Bagley and McIntosh, Minnesota, where her compassion and dedication left a lasting impact on colleagues and patients alike. Her gentle, nurturing spirit was a source of comfort and strength to many.
Deloris's love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for camping, fishing, and attending Powwows. These activities were not just hobbies but a way to connect with the world and people around her, creating cherished memories with her loved ones.
Deloris was predeceased by her first husband, James Fisher; her second husband, Glen Peterson; her son, Robert (Bobby) Peterson; her grandchildren, John, April, and Leigh Sawyer, Jeffery Fisher; and her great-grandson, Torrin Peterson. Her legacy of love and laughter lives on through her surviving children: John (Deb) Fisher of Lengby, Jim Fisher (Vicki) of Lengby, Jean (Mike) Philban of Victor, MT, Julie (Tom) Rambeck of Thief River Falls, Joan Fisher of Arkansas, Terry (Jody) Peterson of Fosston, Charles (Chuck) Peterson of Shevlin, Vicki Peterson of Bagley, and David (Rebecca) of Little Falls, MN. Deloris's family extends to 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her vibrant spirit.
A celebration of Deloris's life will be held on June 6, 2026, at Samuel Memorial Church, located at 36 Church St., Naytahwaush, MN 56566. As we gather to honor her memory, we will remember a woman whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and the enduring power of family.
In our hearts, Deloris Mae Peterson will forever remain a beacon of warmth, love, and laughter. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
