Delores Lane Green, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 28, 1947, in Washington, North Carolina, Delores was the cherished daughter of the late Marion Lee Green Jr. and Edith Alston Green. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her sister Iris Green Burgess and her brother Oscar Green. Delores leaves behind a family who adored her: her sisters Inez Green of Durham, NC, and Charlene G. Fisher of Fayetteville, NC; her brothers Marion Allen Green (Sarah) and Irvin Green (Jackie), both of Washington, NC. She is also survived by five nephews, five nieces, several great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Among her dear ones was a special friend, Marcellous Patterson, who shared many life moments with her. Education was a cornerstone in Delores's life. After completing high school, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Fayetteville State University. She began her teaching career in Aurora, NC, and shortly thereafter moved to Norfolk, VA, where she dedicated over three decades to Norfolk Public Schools. Her commitment to her students and her community was unwavering, and she was frequently recognized for her outstanding service. Beyond her professional achievements, Delores was a vibrant member of her community. Upon relocating to Norfolk, she joined First Baptist Church, where her love for music found a home in the choir. She dedicated her time and talents to various church committees and activities, embodying the spirit of service and faith. Music was a lifelong passion for Delores. She was an ardent lover of classical, jazz, and old-school music, and her talent as a soloist was highlighted during school concerts and holiday events. Her voice, both in song and public speaking, was admired by many. Delores also found joy in traveling, shopping, savoring good food, and engaging in lively social gatherings. She was known to enjoy the occasional visit to the casino, where her laughter could often be heard. Delores was a woman of high standards and ambition, always striving for excellence in herself and inspiring those around her to do the same. Her devotion to her family was evident in the countless vacations she organized for her parents and the summers she spent with her nieces and nephews. She always was excited about spending time at her grandparents' home. Her home was a place filled with warmth and love, where memories were made and cherished. Her legacy of love, education, and community service will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Delores Lane Green will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide all who knew her. She has left an indelible mark on this world, and her memory will be cherished forever.
