Delores Johnson, a cherished soul, gracefully departed this world on June 13, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on October 31, 1945, in the vibrant city of Jacksonville, Florida, Delores was a beacon of love and resilience, leaving behind a legacy steeped in warmth and compassion.
Delores was the beloved daughter of Martha Lee Jenkins and Gus Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted siblings—Gus Smith Jr., Jacqueline Jenkins, Jackie Jenkins, Terry Jenkins, and Pamela Jenkins—and her lifelong best friend, Shirley Williams. She was also predeceased by her dear daughter-in-love, Lueala Robinson Smith. Their memories, etched into her heart, undoubtedly welcomed her into her eternal rest.
A proud graduate of the Duval County School Board, Delores dedicated her professional life to custodial work. Her diligence and integrity were evident in every endeavor, and she took great pride in her contributions. Delores possessed an innate ability to find beauty in simplicity, demonstrated in her love for reading, crocheting, and sewing. Her creations, much like her spirit, were crafted with care and an eye for detail, leaving those around her inspired and touched.
Delores's life was fundamentally about family. She leaves behind her loving children: Larry Smith, Ronald Smith (Darlene), Pebbela Branton, and Lawanda Bynum. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lakesha Smith, Amy Robinson, Ronald Smith Jr. (Kiki), Jimmie Branton Jr. (Shondalyn), Jonathan Smith, Janelle Branton (Derrick), Larry Robinson, James Robison (Angela), Christopher Smith, DeAndre Bynum, and Kaiden Bynum. The joy of her later years, her great-grandchildren—KeAndra, Cheyenne, Ronald III, Jaiden, Messiah, Jonathan Jr., Jonathan III, and Kha'miya—were the stars in her sky, each visit a cherished memory.
Delores is also survived by her siblings: Kenneth Jenkins (Clarice), Aaron Jenkins (Ronique), Donald Jenkins, and Zonia Jenkins. Her extended family, including an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, as well as many beloved friends, mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Delores's profound impact on her family and friends. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Delores Johnson will be remembered as a woman of grace, dignity, and unwavering love—a true matriarch whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
