Delores Delano Harris
March 16, 1934 — April 9, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Delores Delano Harris, who departed this world peacefully at home on April 9, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on March 16, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA, Delores was a beacon of love, strength, and unwavering spirit to all who knew her.
Delores was the cherished daughter of Lillian and Robert Whiting Sr., and she was lovingly reunited with them in eternity, along with her devoted husband, Garland L. Harris, her brothers Robert Jr. and Charles Whiting, her sisters Lucille Peal, Pearl, and Amelia Whiting, her brother-in-law William Peal, and her son-in-law Richard Graham.
A proud product of the Philadelphia Public School System, Delores was a woman of many talents and relentless determination. Her career spanned several decades and included dedicated service at Devon Sweater Factory, Philco Ford, Whitman's Chocolates, Arthur Jackson Cleaning Service, and Frankford Country Club. She respectfully retired in 2005 from St. Joseph University, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and excellence.
Delores's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, which she joined in 1952. In 2013, she became a faithful servant at Enon Baptist Church, where she continued to serve with love until her health would no longer permit.
A woman of many passions, Delores was known for her love of entertaining, cooking, dancing, sewing, and tending to her plants. She had a flair for fashion and was always impeccably dressed, often with a stylish hat to match her ensemble. Her vibrant personality and "tell it like it is" spirit endeared her to many, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her.
Delores's legacy lives on through her youngest sister, Armetine Whiting, her son Rodney (Vertell), and daughters Sharon Graham, Lisa, Garlenda, and Marquea (Eric Deloache). She was a proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren—Cheron, Cherie, Tamika, Michelle, Norman, Edward, Janise, Kyle, Rita, Khalief, Jalisa, Rodneya, Rodney Jr., Keiara, Marquea, Raheem, and Chloe. Her love extended even further to her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special extended family member, Cheryl Robinson, and her bonus son Nate.
Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the caregivers who provided Delores with years of compassionate TLC.
A celebration of Delores's life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 12:00 PM at York House, located on Old York Rd. We invite all those who were touched by her kindness and love to join us in commemorating a life that was as beautiful and vibrant as the woman herself.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we find solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly. Rest in peace, Delores Delano Harris; your legacy of love and joy will forever be remembered.
