April 9, 1957 — May 12, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Delbert James Thronsen, who left this world peacefully at home on May 12, 2026, at the age of 69. Delbert was born on April 9, 1957, in the small yet vibrant community of Tanana. From the very beginning, his life was woven with the threads of adventure, love, and a boundless commitment to those around him. Delbert's life was a tapestry of rich experiences, beginning with his formative years in Fairbanks, where he attended Lathrop High School. He seized the opportunities of his youth, working on the iconic Alaska Pipeline during the 1970s, mining for gold, and engaging in the rugged life of a commercial fisherman. As time passed, he found fulfillment working closer to home, always with an eye toward taking care of his beloved family. In Reno, Nevada, on December 15, 1990, Delbert committed his life to his soulmate, Sharon Heffle. Their enduring partnership was a beacon of love and strength, and together they raised five wonderful children: Ashly Burges, Laura Thronsen, Delbert Thronsen Jr., Elizabeth Thronsen, and Joseph Thronsen. Delbert's love and guidance extended to his eight cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. Delbert was a man of deep faith, baptized on April 10, 2022, at the Sanctuary UPC church in Fairbanks. He found solace and community within its walls, participating in life groups and men's breakfasts, where his warmth and humor were a source of inspiration to all who knew him. A man of many passions, Delbert had a culinary gift that he generously shared with family and friends. He loved nothing more than cooking large meals, the laughter and stories around the table echoing his own zest for life. Whether fishing, reading, or enjoying a meal out, Delbert's heart was always open, particularly to his grandchildren, for whom he had endless time and affection. Delbert was predeceased by his parents, Laura Noble and Earl Thronsen, but leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of 36 years, DeAnne Milk, his children, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His brother, Eddie Thronsen, also survives him, continuing the legacy of love and camaraderie that defined Delbert's life. Known for his big hugs and the endearing nicknames he bestowed upon people, places, and things, Delbert's presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of showing up—no matter the time, temperature, or circumstance, Delbert was always there to lend a helping hand. A service to celebrate Delbert's life will be held on May 21, 2026, at 1:03 PM at the Tribal Hall, 111 Clay Street, Fairbanks, Alaska, 99701. The family extends its deepest gratitude for the outpouring of support, offers to help, and heartfelt condolences received during this difficult time. In honoring Delbert's memory, we continue to carry his spirit within us, cherishing the love, laughter, and lessons he imparted. His was a life well-lived, and his legacy will forever be a part of those who knew and loved him.
