DeJaun Lee Scott, Sr

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of DeJaun Lee Scott, Sr., who left this world peacefully on September 18, 2026, in his cherished hometown of Wichita, Kansas. Born on September 4, 1976, in Wichita, DeJaun was the son of Huey L. and Virginia G. Scott, Jr. A man of deep faith and boundless humor, DeJaun filled every room with light and laughter. His early years were nurtured by his grandparents, the late Huey L. and Mary R. Scott, Sr., and Superintendent Freddie L. and Mother Fern M. Anderson, who instilled in him the values of faith, family, and community. DeJaun’s life was a testament to love and dedication. In June 1999, he married Monica Ervin, and together they were blessed with three wonderful sons, DeMaje' Lee, DeJuan Lee Jr., and Dakota Lee, affectionately known as "Dem Scott Boys." Though their marriage transitioned into a friendship, the bond they shared remained a strong foundation for their family. A proud graduate of Wichita High School Southeast, DeJaun was a lifelong learner and an enthusiast of new experiences. He was an avid self-taught cook, whose culinary creations were as delightful as his famous jokes. His passion for life extended beyond the kitchen to the garage, where he often lent his skills to friends and family, always willing to lend a hand or share a laugh beneath the hood of a car. DeJaun’s professional journey saw him light up various workplaces with his humor and camaraderie. His presence was a gift, whether he was on a factory floor or serving at Holy Temple Church of God In Christ, where his grandfather once led. DeJaun found joy in serving his church community, from keeping the church grounds beautiful to sharing his humor in the sound room. DeJuan is survived by his beloved children, DeMaje', DeJuan Jr., and Dakota; his cherished grandchildren, Zylin, Damani, and Amoura; his devoted parents, Huey L. and Virginia G. Scott; his siblings, DaJina (Steve) Kiel and DeAndre "Nikko" (Jessica) Scott; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and humor. He is predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms. A celebration of DeJaun’s life will be held on October 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Greater Holy Temple Church of God In Christ, located at 1706 E 11th St N, Wichita, KS 67214. The Scott family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have supported them with hugs, text messages, phone calls, and prayers during this difficult time. DeJuan’s love and legacy live on through each of us, a testament to the indelible mark he left on this world. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to a cause close to DeJuan’s heart, honoring his legacy of service and love.
