Debra J. Ward
July 23, 1962 — April 8, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debra J. Ward, fondly known as Debbie, who departed this world on April 8, 2026, at the age of 63. Debbie passed away surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on July 23, 1962, in Madison, Indiana, to the late James Donald Pyles and Muriel Mae Rothe Pyles. Debbie's journey was one filled with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that touched everyone she met.
Debbie was predeceased by her beloved parents, her sisters Brenda and Paula, nephew Jason Kimmel, and a cherished family member, Ross Marts. Her memory lives on through her devoted husband of nearly 35 years, Edward Ward, and her loving family, who will continue to honor her legacy. She leaves behind her sister Sandy Rilenge, two brothers, and her children: Amanda Rilenge Milsho, Nicholas (Ashley) Rilenge, Ashley Ward, and stepson Sean Ward. Debbie's heart was expansive, and she embraced several "adopted" children over the years, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Her grandchildren, Waylon Milsho, Rylee Milsho, Vayda Rilenge, Willow Rilenge, Andrew, Landen Manuel, Esther Russel, Axle Ward, Wyatt Ward, and Kyndzliegh, were her pride and joy, each cherished deeply. Debbie also helped raise her niece, Dakota Rilenge, and her affection extended to her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a wide circle of friends.
A graduate of Madison Consolidated High School, Debbie was known for her strong work ethic, having worked in several manufacturing facilities, including the Staples Distribution Center, before retiring from Advics Manufacturing in 2024. Her colleagues remember her as a dedicated worker and a warm, friendly presence who made every workplace a more enjoyable environment.
Debbie's life was characterized by her generous spirit and love for her community. She had the heart of a servant, always ready to lend a helping hand, raise a child in need, or prepare a meal that turned strangers into family. Her kitchen was a sanctuary where love was served alongside every dish. Her passions were diverse, from fishing and spending time by the river to indulging in the thrill of a casino visit. Debbie was also an avid animal lover, with a special fondness for adopting stray animals, including a raccoon and a skunk, who found a home in her heart and care.
Debbie's love for coffee, super sweet tea, horses, and Elvis were legendary among those who knew her. Her laughter and warmth were infectious, and her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
In honoring Debbie's wishes, the family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm, with details shared privately among family and friends. The family invites all who knew and loved Debbie to join them in celebrating the life of a remarkable woman whose love and kindness knew no bounds.
Debbie's departure leaves an irreplaceable void, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her, and forever watching over those she held dear.
