Debra "Deb" Carol Morley McMurrin, a beacon of love, resilience, and joy, peacefully passed away on April 26, 2026, at her home in the comforting embrace of her family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on September 7, 1957, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, Debra's life was a testament to enduring faith, unwavering love, and relentless service.
Debra was the cherished daughter of Robert and Nancy Morley. Her life was enriched by the love she shared with her late husband, Dr. James Allen McMurrin, Jr., whom she married on April 26, 1975. Their union, solemnized a year later in the Ogden Temple, was a beautiful journey filled with devotion, faith, and an unwavering commitment to family and service.
A devoted wife, nurturing mother, and adoring grandmother, Debra's legacy lives on through her beloved children: Jen (Dax) Gurr, Mary (Steve) Hensley, Emily (Neil) Smith, and Jimmy (Samantha) McMurrin. Her twelve grandchildren—Hailey (Alec), Kaleb, Cecil (Emma), Emmett, Kennedy, Jackson, Millie, Evan, Pierce, Leah, and Calloway—were the light of her life, each carrying forward the warmth and love that she so generously imparted.
Debra's academic pursuits were as remarkable as her personal ones. She earned her Associate’s Degree in data processing and computer programming from MCC-Maple Woods in Kansas City, Missouri. Her educational journey was a testament to her tenacity and determination, balancing her studies with raising two children and supporting Jim through medical school.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Debra's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served tirelessly in various callings, notably helping to establish the "Just Serve" program and dedicating her time as a temple worker in the Las Vegas Temple—a place where she found immense strength and peace.
Music was Debra's soul's expression. She was a gifted songwriter and lyricist, sharing her talents in choirs, church gatherings, and with the Saints Unified Voices alongside Gladys Knight, where she was affectionately known as "Mama D." Her music was a conduit for her testimony of Christ, bringing joy and inspiration to all who heard her.
Debra's vibrant spirit was evident in her love for sports and games. Whether she was playing volleyball, racquetball, or Scrabble, her competitive yet joyful nature shone through. She also found solace in painting and puzzling, always eager to challenge her creative and strategic mind.
Her life was one of laughter and light, always shining brightly through adversity. Debra's infectious smile and laughter brought warmth to everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
In keeping with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Debra's life. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be remembered as a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and served selflessly.
