Deborah Kay Mitchell

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Kay Mitchell, lovingly known as Kay, who left this world peacefully on September 19, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on June 7, 1951, in Kingsport, Tennessee, Kay was the beloved daughter of the late O.G. and Frankie Clark. Kay was a pillar of strength and compassion, dedicating over 30 years of her life to the service of others as an oncology RN and supervisor at Holston Valley Hospital. Her colleagues and patients alike respected and adored her for her unwavering dedication and comforting presence. Kay's kind spirit extended beyond her professional life into her community, where she was enriched the lives of many as a long-time Sunday School teacher, sharing her faith and wisdom for over two decades. Kay is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Mitchell, with whom she shared 55 beautiful years of marriage. Their life together was a testament to love and partnership. She leaves behind her children, Matthew Mitchell and Rachel Seal, along with Rachel’s husband, Jim. Her legacy continues through her three treasured grandchildren: Olivia Barrett, Ean Barrett, and Willow Seal, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Vicky Fields and husband Rodney, Sandy Richards and husband Pete, Tamara Adams and late husband Jerry. As well as, several nieces and nephews. Kay's life was enriched by the companionship of her dear friend, Rhonda McGhee, whose friendship she held close to her heart. A celebration of Kay's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 311 Cypress Street, Mt. Carmel, TN 37656. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived, filled with love, service, and faith. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Knox Area Rescue Ministries in Knoxville, TN. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Holston Valley Hospital ICU for their professional and compassionate care during her final days. Deborah Kay Mitchell will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
