Deborah Gretz

September 28, 1959 — June 18, 2026

Deborah "Debbie" Gretz, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on June 18, 2026, after an extended illness. Born on September 28, 1959, in Caldwell, Idaho, Debbie was the beloved daughter of Beverly and Alvie Lanfear, who predeceased her. Debbie was a proud graduate of New Plymouth High School, Class of 1977. After school, she embarked on a career that touched many lives, working briefly at a local bowling alley before dedicating her time to the Idaho Humane Society and Idaho Fish & Game. However, it was her role as a beloved "lunch lady" in the Middleton school district, a position she held for over three decades, that truly defined her career. In this role, Debbie was a warm and welcoming presence to countless students, always ready with a kind word or a listening ear, embodying her deep compassion for children and her community. On April 16, 1983, Debbie married the love of her life, Charles Gretz. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter, and were blessed with three wonderful children: Abby, Michael, and Jason, who, along with his wife Alison, survive her. Debbie's love extended to her grandchildren, Maisie Gretz and Liam Sheldon, who brought immense joy to her life. Outside of work and family, Debbie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener, finding peace and serenity among her plants. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and creativity, where she enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and baking delightful treats. Debbie's love for animals, especially her cherished cats, was evident in her gentle and nurturing nature. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Charles. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love lives on in her children and grandchildren, who will continue to cherish her memory. A service to celebrate Debbie's life will be held on July 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Flahiff Funeral Home, 624 Cleveland Blvd, Caldwell, Idaho. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Keystone Hospice and the caregivers through Hallmark for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Debbie's memory are encouraged to donate to a charity of their choice, reflecting her generosity and commitment to helping others. Debbie Gretz will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to her community. She touched the lives of many, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
