Deborah "Debbie" Faith Sheray, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully at her home in Montana on February 18, 2026. She was 81 years old.
Born on April 18, 1944, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Debbie was the cherished daughter of Frederick Tourkow and Leah Schwartz Tourkow. Raised in a close-knit family, she carried the values of love, kindness, and resilience throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her dear parents and her brother, S. Ralph Tourkow, whose memories she treasured deeply.
Debbie was the heart and soul of her family, and she leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years, Robert "Bob" Sheray. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. She was the proud mother of two sons, Jacob Adam Sheray and Brahm Sheray, who were the light of her life. Her legacy continues through her three beloved grandchildren and one cherished great-grandchild, who brought immense joy to her days.
Her brother, Joshua (Donna) Tourkow, survives her and holds dear the countless memories they shared. Debbie also leaves behind a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who considered themselves fortunate to have known her warmth and generosity.
Debbie's passion for education was evident from the very start of her career. She began as an English teacher at East Allen County Schools and later dedicated decades to teaching at Indiana Business College. Her commitment to her students was unparalleled, and she took great pride in helping them learn and thrive. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, inspiring countless individuals to pursue their dreams.
A lifelong member of Congregation B'nai Jacob, Debbie's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Her involvement in the congregation from childhood was a testament to her deep-rooted beliefs and dedication to her community.
Debbie was a true pioneer in her appreciation for culinary arts, known fondly as a "foodie" before the term gained popularity. She found immense joy in cooking for her friends and family, creating meals that were as nourishing as they were delicious. Her kitchen was always a place of warmth, where stories were shared, and bonds were strengthened over hearty meals.
A celebration of Debbie's life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Congregation Achduth Veshalom, located at 5200 Old Mill Rd. Her family invites all who knew her to join in honoring her remarkable life.
